When The Flowers Bloom

With the grass a brighter shade of green, the sun gently waking the singing birds at dusk and newly born lambs dancing around the place, just a few reasons why I can't wait for Spring to arrive. We don't have long left, a month or so, until we can shed our winter coats and scarves, and embrace the rainbow of colours awaiting us this spring/summer.

Now of course with Spring comes the arrival of gardens, trees, and fields filled with beautiful blooming flowers, and here at Champagne Kisses, will be no exception.

I thought I would share with you all a sneaky peek at our new spring collection
.

I really wanted to take things back to basics, using wire work techniques, and beading, teamed with delicate flowers, that I learnt when I first started making jewellery back in September 2009. It's been really refreshing, didn't quite realise just how much I missed making jewellery this way until I started doing it again.

Expect to see a lot of unique one of a kind pieces, some reworked vintage beauties, and some gorgeous statement jewellery!

Tunnel Vision

So I feel there is an apology to be made...on my behalf of course....for the neglect that occurred this month. I'M SORRY. Please forgive me?
I could bore you with all the details, but instead I'll keep it sweet and simple. I was preparing for my uni interview, which when I found out what date it was, left me just over a week to get a portfolio together! Aaaah I was freaking out to say the least. So quite naturally that required my utter most attention, and a week of late nights (and I mean late nights) and early mornings. But the good news is, that it was totally worth it because I GOT IN hallelujah. September can't come quick enough for me, I can't wait to be studying Fashion Design :)

But anyway, with regards to Champagne Kisses, things are slowly getting back in order, I have many many things still on my to do list, but one by one they are getting ticked off. Thank god. And to you all lovely bloggers that are awaiting your goodies in the post, please bear with me, you have not been forgotten!

So this post is a little late in being published (please read above).

You may, or may not, remember me mentioning briefly in the last post about what my darling Daniel had got me for Valentines Day. Well here's what it was.....

A DAY WORKSHOP IN SUBTRACTION CUTTING WITH FASHION DESIGNER JULIAN ROBERTS

Aaaah :D. Out of all the presents I've had in my life, my boyfriend's are always the best.

The day started off with a bit of embarrassment....typical me to be honest. I arrived 5 mins late. The room in which the seminar was being held was pitch black, minus a bit of light coming from the video that was playing, I interrupted him speaking (luckily he was awesome, so he didn't care lol) and I couldn't see anywhere to sit, so I had to stand for the duration of the first video.... in front of everyone. Welcome to my world people :p Thankfully a friend had saved a seat for me, so I didn't have to stand the entire time!

So what is subtraction cutting (subcut for short) I hear your little minds wondering? Well it's an innovative form of pattern cutting invented by Mr.Roberts himself, which creates these stunning dresses full of volume and twists! Using the tunnel technique (sewing 2 lengths of fabric and then across the top, leaving the only opening at the bottom, much like a duvet) you then cut holes, sew them all together again, and voila you have a dress :p
Obviously it's not quite that simple, but for today's post I'm not going to go into the details.

During the seminar he did a live demonstration (Julian Roberts finished dress below) the white fabric was originally on the 'back', but after a few holes here and a few holes there, you can see that the white has moved around to the front creating the skirt of the dress. Isn't it wonderfully unusual? :)

I must admit I've got an inspiration crush on this designer. Throughout the seminar he was talking about his career as a fashion designer, how he sold his first label on Ebay for £1, how he cancelled a show he was scheduled for at London Fashion Week, and instead projected his collection on to a building outside, One year he even made his final collection on stage in front of the audience. I mean this guy sounds crazy right? I think he's an utter genius. He talked about having to be fearless, something I guess I'm yet to learn, took me 3 years to gather up enough confidence to even apply for university (sounds pathetic doesn't it lol). So I defiantly came away from this with a whole new way of thinking, or shall I say not thinking? Sometimes it's better to just go for it, experiment, just see what happens, let the imagination run riot. After all, didn't fashion make rules to be broken?

And what's amazing about these subcut dresses is you never fully know how it's going to turn out, which can be really exciting! There's no such thing as a mistake! How great is that? Seeing as during the workshop when it was our turn to make our own subcut dress.....the first thing I did was 'wrong' (I wrote really shit notes during the seminar haha) and accidentally cut this MASSIVE hole which should have been my bodice. Now when traditionally cutting fabric for your garment, if you make a mistake like that, chances are you're going to have to start all over again. But I just stitched that hole back up and instead ended up with this amazing seam to work with, which in my finished results created this beautiful pleating effect. And yes, that lovely blue dress is mine :)
I don't know about you, but I love it. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, which in theory fits in quite well when you consider the concept of the design, and the concept of wonderland, it's all a little mad to be honest! I have since then decided, that I want to make another of these dresses entirely out of white fur (faux of course) and fall down my own whimsical rabbit hole.

Kissing boys on fences

I was planning on writing this up tomorrow morning (or today, which ever way you want to look at it) but seeing as it's now 2:10am and (although trying for 2 hours) I still haven't managed to get to sleep, I thought, I'll do it now :)

As I'm sure we're all aware Valentines day will be making it's annual appearance next Monday. So I thought I would inject a little old fashioned romance into your day, and share with you some adorable dreamy finds from Etsy.

Now I personally would LOVE any of these as a gift to open on V-day, but seeing as I already know what my darling boyfriend has got me (more on that another day, it's a gooden :) trust me) looks like one of you will have to treat me instead! Haha. I'm kidding....well unless of course you want too :p

I want these the most <3

What are you longing for this Valentines day?

An Interview With The Fashion Diaries

So getting the blog of to fashionable start, I've got a special little treat for you! Something of which I have been (selfishly) saving for the last week or so whilst I got all set up :)
Introducing to you, the darling, Olivia Slack

Isn't that outfit adorable?

Olivia runs The Fashion Diaries , a blog dedicated to helping those of us who frequently stroll on into a shop and stare blankly at the masses and masses of clothes hanging before our very eyes, thinking to ourselves 'Now what the heck do I buy?' and the chances are you either leave with nothing, or something so ridiculous it gets thrown to the back of the wardrobe, only to see light years after and your first thoughts are 'What ever could have possessed me to buy that....' we've all had those moments right?
Well fret no more ladies, help has arrived.

But, instead of having me rambling on about why you should love this blog (and trust me, you will) I'll let Olivia herself do the talking....

Your Tumblr The Fashion Diaries, only started back in July last year, but by the looks of things you were already quite well known in the fashion blogging world for providing style tips, so how long have you been blogging for?
I had a personal blog before The Fashion Diaries, and only had around 50 followers, but when I started to write fashion related posts, I got a lot of positive feedback so decided to devote an entire blog to it. I feel super lucky that my blog took off so quickly, because most people usually have to wait for months to get any kind of following, but I've only really been blogging for 'fashion' since I started TFD back in July!

What started you blogging?
Fashion and writing are two huge passions of mine, so I figured, why not combine the two!

After looking through your blog, it's clear you have a natural eye for styling, and for picking up on new and existing trends. So how would you describe your own personal style?

I often try defining my style to people, but I find it hard. When I go shopping, I just buy things that I like, whether they're suited to one particular fashion movement or not. Obviously I take inspiration from the catwalk, but I like mixing it up a little. One day I'll go for the 'grunge' look, and another I'll be head to toe in chiffon and frills. My style all depends on my mood when I get out of bed and look in my wardrobe that morning.

You do a feature called 'Style Stealer' where you pick a celebrity and then find high street alternatives, but who's style inspires you the most?
At the moment, I'm loving the wardrobes we see on television. Gossip Girl's have an absolutely stunning wardrobe, of course, and I'm also loving what the girls in 90210 are wearing - particularly Annie, who is played by Shenae Grimes who I also follow for fashion!

I personally love your 'What I Wore' posts, is there any particular section of your blog you enjoy just a teeny bit more than the others?
I love the question and answers, just because it means I get to have a voice. People actually want my opinion on what to wear, which feels really great! I'll be adding lots more features in the next couple of weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for those!

Back in September you won Look magazine's blogger competition, and got to attend The LOOK Show! That must have been an amazing experience for you?
The whole weekend was a fabulous blur! It was only a couple of months after I'd started writing my blog, so it was great to get to attend fashion week - every fashion bloggers dream - when my blog was just a baby! I love that the show is a high street show too. Designer clothes are fab, but high street is my forté. I got to meet some other fantastic bloggers too, and not to mention the celebrities! It's great to attend a fashion week show and know that you'll actually be able to afford your favourite pieces when they're in store.

Do you have any future plans/hopes for The Fashion Diaries? Do you see it opening opportunities for you?
I know a lot of people use their blogs as a "stepping stone" to get them into journalism. That would be great for me, but I'd like to incorporate my blog into that somewhere rather than just leaving it as soon as it gets me my dream career. Ultimately, I'd like to work for a fashion magazine. I have an internship lined up for the Summer, so we'll see how it goes! I have a few plans to better The Fashion Diaries... whether they will work or not, who knows? It's all just about trial and error for me.

If you had £1000 where would you go and what would you treat yourself too?
I'd go to the store around the corner from my flat and buy a Mulberry bag. And I'd purchase some Sam Edelman 'Zoe' boots online!

And finally 3 reasons why you love your life?
My friends, My family and my dogs. They're the three main reasons!

Isn't she lovely? Yes, I think so too.

Now because of Olivia's eye for style, and my slightly shameful fear of the maxi skirt/dress that has been unleashed upon us all (is it just me? Or is anybody else weary that they just might not be able to pull this one off?) I couldn't help but to set her a challenge! I asked (very kindly) if Olivia would put together an outfit focused on the maxi trend, with a romantic twist. And just as expected, what a beautiful outfit it was.

Welcome to the new blog!

So about a week or so ago, I decided I would make the switch over from Tumblr to here on Blogspot! Reasons consist off:
  1. I like writing features and whatnot and plan on doing ALOT more, and I felt as though blogspot was the better option out of the 2 to do such things
  2. Tumblr is pretty much only used by people to post pretty pictures, and to reblog those pretty pictures, it's not so much for reading and writing
  3. I wanted to :)
I'll still use Tumblr to post images from articles written on here, linking to and from each other, so please do continue to follow me!

HANDMADESTACI TUMBLR

Oh I also really don't like my tumblr name (it's pretty lame I know lol) so starting a new blog means I get a new name (YAY)

Shall we get blogging? Yes I think so <3
